Starting a business is a journey filled with excitement, challenges, and countless learning opportunities. My own journey began with Paylend, a fintech startup focused on digitizing MSMEs and providing essential loans. Just like many of you, I faced the highs and lows of the entrepreneurial rollercoaster.
We managed to raise $2 million, securing $500k from the raise, which felt like a huge milestone. This allowed us to move to a bigger office and expand our team. But soon, the initial excitement was met with real-world challenges. Despite our hard work and dedication, we eventually had to close the business. This experience was humbling and taught me invaluable lessons about the intricacies of running a startup, the importance of focus, and the resilience needed to succeed.
Before starting Paylend, I worked at a startup incubation hub where I gained a comprehensive understanding of the startup ecosystem. I saw firsthand the various stages of startup development, from ideation and market research to funding and scaling. This all-around experience gave me a deep appreciation for the challenges and opportunities that entrepreneurs face.
Every step of the way, from raising funds to conducting market research, I experienced firsthand the hustles and hurdles of being a startup founder in Africa. I understand the stress and complexity involved in turning an idea into a successful business.
